Taste of India | Our Story

Charlotte's Favorite Indian Food, From Food Truck to Restaurant

It started with a small food truck and a big dream. We served the Hyderabad and Vijayawada street style food we grew up on, one plate at a time, and something remarkable happened: you showed up. Order after order, you turned that little truck into one of Carolina's biggest. Now we're taking the next step. Taste of India is our very own restaurant in the University City neighborhood of northeast Charlotte, NC, at 2130 E Arbors Dr, built on the same pure South Indian flavors, the same passion, and the same love that started on four wheels. We're proudly locally owned and independent, not a franchise. Every biryani, every juicy mandi, every crisp dosa is cooked the way our family has always made it. And the best part? The food truck is staying. The restaurant is opening. The same taste you fell in love with will be waiting for you at both, and we're open late for when the craving hits, until 11pm on Friday and Saturday. This isn't just a new restaurant. It's the celebration of a dream you helped make real. Every visit, every kind word, every recommendation brought us here. From our family to yours, thank you. The journey continues, and we can't wait to share it with you.
Why We're Called Taste of India

Why We're Called Taste of India

Taste of India is a simple name for a big promise: the real thing, cooked the way it's cooked back home. Our roots run deep through South India, land of fierce spice, ancient temple towns, and food that carries generations of tradition on every plate. We borrowed nothing and watered down nothing. From the comforting tastes of the riverbanks to the bold, celebratory feasts of Hyderabad and Vijayawada street style, this is the soul of our home, served on your plate right here in Charlotte.
The Food We Actually Cook

The Food We Actually Cook

Ragi sangati. Ulavacharu biryani. A hundred-plus dosas. This is the South Indian repertoire at full depth — food writers call it "more interesting than anything else in the city."
The Heat Is Not a Mistake

The Heat Is Not a Mistake

Our kitchen runs hotter than most Indian restaurants in America — on purpose. South Indian cooking has real baseline heat, and we're not dialing it down.
A New Chapter, Same Authentic Flavors

A New Chapter, Same Authentic Flavors

What began in Charlotte, North Carolina, as a single destination for authentic regional Indian cuisine has grown into a story of its own. Today, **Taste of India** is proudly owned and operated independently, continuing the tradition of serving authentic regional Indian flavors with the same passion, quality, and hospitality that guests have come to love.
Where People Keep Coming Back

Where People Keep Coming Back

Families gather around generous Mandi platters. Friends return for our signature Pulaos and aromatic Biryanis. Guests savor traditional Thalis that bring together the rich flavors of India on a single plate. Taste of India has become a place where great food brings people together—and that's exactly how we like it.
